The latest update reflects an ongoing calibration of the bonus program.
As part of the latest version of the proposed land development code (also known as CodeNEXT), the City of Austin has updated the proposed administrative procedures that could be used to implement a new, citywide Affordable Housing Bonus Program proposed as part of CodeNEXT.
State law prohibits cities from requiring developers to provide affordable housing units in their developments. In order to incentivize the construction of affordable housing, the City of Austin is proposing a voluntary bonus program that would encourage developers to opt-in to a program that allows additional entitlements (like more dwelling units or increased building height) in exchange for setting aside a number of income-restricted affordable units.
The latest update to the administrative procedures reflects an ongoing calibration of the bonus program since the release of CodeNEXT 3.0 in February of this year. This revised procedures document with the link to updated maps showing the different affordable unit set-aside requirements can be found on the CodeNEXT Draft 3 website or is downloadable as a .pdf.
For those who would like to download the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) spatial data used to map the different affordable unit set-aside requirements, this can be found on the CodeNEXT 3.0 website. However, please note you must have access to GIS software to utilize this data. The publicly viewable maps can be accessed through the Administrative Procedures document linked above.
