Customers will see a rate decrease effective May 1, 2018.
(Austin)— All retail customers, including residential, multifamily, commercial and large volume customers of Austin Water will see a rate decrease effective May 1, 2018, under a plan approved by the Austin City Council in March. The average residential customer will see a $2.40 reduction to their monthly bill.
Affordability has been a long-term initiative of the utility. Refinancing and paying off loans early allowed the utility keep the overall cost down and pass along the savings to ratepayers. Water usage rates were left unchanged in 2017 and then lowered mid-year in 2018. The new current low rates are expected to stay the same through 2018 and 2019.
November 2017 – Water usage rates stay the same (beginning of the fiscal year)
May 2018 – Water usage rates reduced for retail customers (mid-fiscal year)
November 2018 – Rates expected to stay the same (at the current low rate)
November 2019 - Rates expected to stay the same (at the current low rate)
