The Austin Parks and Recreation Department (PARD) has made the decision to close the Northwest Pool for the remainder of the 2018 summer season due to a maintenance issue.
The Northwest Pool (District 7) was originally scheduled to close on Sunday, September 30. Unfortunately, the new motor that was put in at Northwest Pool has failed, and in order to repair this motor, the 550,000 gallon pool must be completely drained. Once repaired, the pool will then take approximately 48 hours to fill and 24 hours to properly balance the pool chemistry. The Northwest Pool, which is currently open on the weekends, only has six (6) more scheduled open dates for the season (September 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 and 30). The pool will not be prepared in time to operate this weekend, leaving only four (4) more operational dates for the season.
Based on the limited amount of days remaining, it is PARD’s decision to close the Northwest Pool for the remaining 2018 summer season as it is neither fiscally or environmentally responsible to proceed with reopening the pool.
