Help shape the future of ABIA on April 19 in the airport's Master Plan workshop.
AUSTIN, TEXAS – The public is invited to participate in the upcoming second public workshop on the ABIA 2040 Master Plan, scheduled for April 19 from 6pm to 8:30pm. The workshop will be held at 2716 Spirit of Texas Drive. Passenger traffic at Austin’s airport has increased annually since 2010, and in 2017 was a record 13.88 million travelers. The ABIA 2040 Master Plan is a new planning effort underway to prepare for future passenger growth. Through the master planning public workshops, residents and travelers can help form future airport growth and provide input on what they foresee for their airport.
The new ABIA 2040 Master Plan intends to lay out plans to expand the airport, while maintaining the Austin atmosphere that passengers have become accustomed to including live music and local vendors.
“People love how our airport feels like Austin; everything from the music to the food to the atmosphere within the terminal,” said Lyn Estabrook, Project Management Supervisor at ABIA. “We want to maintain our strong brand and culture and embrace new technologies and opportunities to provide world-class airport facilities and services to the traveling public.”
ABIA invites Central Texans to share their vision for the Airport at this second public workshop. This meeting will educate citizens on the future plans for the airport and gather their ideas to include in the vision of ABIA over the next 20 years.
ABIA 2040 Master Plan Public Workshop #2
April 19, 2018
6pm – 8:30pm
2716 Spirit of Texas Drive
Presentation begins at 6:30pm
The public meeting will include presentations from the ABIA Staff, a Q & A session and informational displays staffed by consultants, planners and engineers from the Master Plan Team.
“Our anticipated robust growth over the last few years has required us to build the support services and build the infrastructure to help support that growth,” explained Jennifer Williams, Capital Improvement Program Manager at ABIA.
The master plan is needed because as Austin and central Texas continues to grow, the infrastructure needs to support the region’s growth. Austin-Bergstrom International opened in 1999 and was originally built to serve 11 million passengers annually. When the 9-gate terminal expansion currently underway is complete in 2019, it will increase terminal capacity to 15 million annual passengers.
